Dr. Powers Griffin joined his father in practice after receiving his doctorate from the Southern College of Optometry in 1978. “Dr. Powers” grew up in San Clemente and went on to do his undergraduate work at the University of Santa Clara. In addition to his studies while at Santa Clara, he had the good fortune to row for the college crew team competing throughout the United States and the United Kingdom.
“Dr. Powers” has been active in the Laguna Niguel Lions Club since 1980, having served as president in 1984 – 1985 and also 2005 – 2006. He enjoys donating his free time to local school vision screening, health fairs and speaking to groups about Optometry and eye health.
“Dr. Powers” has published articles in Optometric Journals related to the work the Griffin Optometric Group has done in the contact lens field. He has been an invited speaker to professional groups of optometrists and ophthalmologists about current contact lens developments including colored contacts, contacts for astigmatism and bifocal lenses. In 2001, “Dr. Powers” became part of a select group of optometrists to pass a rigorous entrance exam into the American Academy of Optometry. The achievement signifies “Dr. Powers” dedication to furthering his education in optometric science.
“Dr Powers” and his wife live in Laguna Niguel and are very proud of their two daughters who are social workers and their son who is attending University of Arizona. During his spare time, he enjoys traveling, playing golf and spending time with his grandson. - Dr. Randy Griffin

Dr. Randy Griffin completed his schooling and joined the practice in 1983. Dr. Randy is a graduate of San Clemente High School, The University of Santa Clara and the Southern College of Optometry. He is a member of a peer review committee for a west coast vision insurance plan, helping establish guidelines; policies and procedures for other eye care professionals. Furthermore, he has been a board member for a local laser vision clinic since 1997.
In terms of service, “Dr. Randy” is a member of the San Clemente Kiwanis, having served as president from 1998-89. He has further involved himself in the South Coast Boys and Girls club as a member of the board of directors since 1995. Additionally he is a member of the board of the San Clemente Educational Trust, which like many of his other activities, is directed towards the youth of the South Orange County area.

Dr. Patrick Griffin joined the Griffin Optometric Group in 1989. Like his brothers, “Dr. Patrick” grew up in San Clemente, graduating from San Clemente High School. He went on to do his undergraduate work at the Loyola Marymount and then attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Patrick completed two externship programs; first in an ocular pathology clinic in New Orleans and then in a private practice in New York City specializing in advanced contact lens fitting. “Dr. Patrick” is an affiliated member of an Orange County laser center. Having Lasik Surgery himself, he brings a hands-on approach in laser co-management with surgeons in the south county area. “Dr. Patrick” is active in the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary club, having served as present in 1997-98. Dr. Patrick currently serves on the board of directors for the Casa Romanica Cultural Center in San Clemente, CA.
“Dr. Patrick” and his wife Mimi stay actively involved in Our Lady of Fatima parish church and school. They make their home in San Clemente with their twin daughters. - Associates

Dr. Tracy Paul
Dr. Traci Paul joined the practice in 1999. A California native, she graduated with honors in Biology from UC Irvine. In 1991, she received her doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) where she specialized in advanced contact lens fitting.
“Dr. Traci” has been actively involved with the Kiwanis club, and often participates in school screenings for low income children.
She lives in south Orange County with her husband and two children.Barry Uminsky, O.D.
Dr. Barry Uminsky hails from Boston, Mass. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Vermont and his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Waterloo located in Ontario, Canada in 1972. He came to California as a Captain in the USAF and was stationed at Edwards AFB. In 1982 Dr. Uminsky and his family moved to Bakersfield, CA. where he established a large private two office practice concentrating in primary care and contact lenses. In January 2006, after over 23 years of practice, Dr. Uminsky sold his Bakersfield practice and moved to Laguna Niguel. He joined the Griffin Optometric Group in July 2006.
Dr. Uminsky’s professional and community interests have included three humanitarian eye care missions to Central America. During his career he has been president of his local optometric society and his local Lions Club. Personal hobbies include reading, gardening and golfing.
Dr. Uminsky and his lovely wife, Alma, a dedicated and talented educator, have raised three wonderful boys who are pursuing their professional careers.BRETT SIMON, O.D.
Dr. Brett Simon attended undergraduate school at UC Irvine majoring in Biology followed by the Southern California College of Optometry, where he graduated magna cum laude, in May 2007; fulfilling a dream he expressed when he was age 13.
Dr. Simon has demonstrated exceptional clinical skill, scoring in the 96th percentile on the National Board exam. Dr. Simon also performed well academically. One of his many awards included the Dr. William Feinbloom Low Vision Award, the highest financial award a graduating senior can receive.
Dr. Simon focuses on primary care, contact lenses, ocular disease, vision therapy, low vision, and pediatrics.On a personal note, Dr. Simon enjoys a variety of activities including soccer, surfing, golfing, fishing, and snowboarding to name a few.
